For centuries, Tamanu Oil has been treasured by Vietnamese communities as a valuable natural remedy. Traditionally, it has been used to support skin health and help care for various skin concerns such as dry skin, burns, fungal infections, psoriasis, and sun exposure. Local women have also used Tamanu Oil as a natural hair conditioner to maintain strong, healthy, and shiny hair. In rural areas without electricity, Tamanu Oil was used as a traditional source of lighting.
Tamanu Tree – A Precious Gift of Nature
The Tamanu tree (Calophyllum inophyllum) is native to Vietnam and can be found throughout the country, particularly across the Mekong Delta region. These resilient trees grow naturally along riverbanks, marshlands, gardens, and waterways.
For thousands of years, the Tamanu tree has held a special place in Vietnamese culture. It symbolizes beauty, love, loyalty, and inspiration, frequently appearing in Vietnamese poetry, folk songs, and traditional literature.
One of the most beloved folk poems tells the story of young love beneath the shade of Tamanu trees, where golden butterflies dance among the branches and rivers connect distant hearts. Through generations, Tamanu has remained a symbol of affection, nostalgia, and enduring connection.
From Tradition to Global Recognition
As global demand for natural and organic cosmetic ingredients continues to grow, Tamanu Oil has gained international recognition for its remarkable skincare and haircare properties.
Recognizing both the commercial potential and environmental importance of Tamanu trees, Vietnam Essential Oil JSC launched the "Producing Tamanu Oil for Export" Project in 2011.
The project was established with three primary objectives:
* Preserve and expand Tamanu tree resources throughout Vietnam.
* Create sustainable employment opportunities for local farmers.
* Increase household income in rural communities while protecting the environment.
The project initially began in Vinh Long Province and has since expanded throughout all 5 provinces of the Mekong Delta region.
Today, approximately 150 farming households actively participate in our Tamanu Oil supply chain. Together, we produce and export nearly 100 tons of premium Tamanu Oil annually.
